iPhones in India to Soon Support 5G Apple has confirmed (via Economic Times) that it will add support for 5G as part of the iOS 16.2 beta in India next week. The company is also planning to meet members of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology MeitY) to update them on the rollout. So, if you have signed up for the iOS beta program, you will be able to test 5G and give feedback to Apple for it to solve the possible issues before the stable rollout begins....

According to recent commits on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) Gerrit spotted by the folks over at XDA Developers, Google might be preparing to relocate fonts and emojis from /system/fonts to data/fonts directory. As a result, you might be able to update emojis without a system update. At its current state, manually replacing system emojis requires root and Magisk modules. Although the process is quite simple and just requires a restart after installing the module, the mandatory requirement of root access has stopped a lot of Android users from manually updating emojis....

Android 13 Coming Soon? The Security Bulletin for August talks about the vulnerabilities in Android 13 and how a security patch level of 2022-09-01 or later will fix these issues on devices running Android 13. This suggests that the security patch along with Android 13 will arrive for users in September. Although, it could be introduced as the AOSP (Android Open Source Project) version of Android 13. As per a recent Gartner report, Apple became the top smartphone vendor in Q4 of 2020, beating Samsung in the run. The report states that the last time Apple was in the top spot, above Samsung was in the fourth quarter of 2016, which was four years ago. According to internal sources, Johny Srouji, Apple’s senior VP for hardware, recently informed employees that the company is readying itself for a second transition. “This year, we kicked off the development of our first internal cellular modem which will enable another key strategic transition,” said Srouji at the meeting. Disney+ Now Supports SharePlay Starting from today, Apple users will be able to stream thousands of movies and TV shows on Disney+ while on a group FaceTime video call on iPhones, iPads, and other supported Apple devices using SharePlay. The digital streaming giant says that the feature will be available for all users across the world and will be compatible with every movie and TV show on its library. This includes content from Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and National Geographic....

The company introduced the App Tracking Protection tool via an official blog post recently. In the post, DuckDuckGo cited a report by AppCensus and mentioned that 96% of popular free Android apps contain hidden third-party trackers. Amongst those, 87% of the apps send user data to Google, while 68% sent data to Facebook, which is now known as Meta. The company also highlighted the fact that while Apple’s iPhones and iPads now come with the App Tracking Transparency feature to prevent third-party trackers to track users, there is no similar feature for Android users....
