As first spotted by MacMagazine, Apple has updated its product comparison page to clarify that older iPhones including iPhone 8, 8 Plus, X, XR, XS, XS Max, SE (second-gen), 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max now support FaceTime calls at 1080p over Wi-Fi. Until now, FaceTime video calling was capped at 720p on these iPhones. Meanwhile, iPhone 12 series supports 1080p FaceTime calls out of the box. Moreover, it even offers the same functionality over cellular networks if you’re in one of those regions with 5G connectivity....

Asus ZenFone 9 and ROG Phone 6 Designs Revealed Starting with the ZenFone 9 design, a vague sketch of the device was discovered in the latest Android 12 update. Chrome OS Supports Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) Displays The feature was recently spotted by About Chromebooks and is currently rolling out to Chrome OS 101 Dev Channel. So, if you want to try out the feature, you will need to be on the Chrome OS Dev Channel and enable the flag – chrome://flags#enable-variable-refresh-rate. For those who don’t know, this capability is something that is available on Windows PCs, various smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S22 series, and even on some smart TVs....

According to the study by Australian researchers published in the Virology Journal, SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for the spread of coronavirus, stays alive for up to 28 days on common surfaces like glass, stainless steel, and even banknotes at 20°C and 50% relative humidity. “The persistence of SARS-COV-2 on glass and vinyl (both common screen and screen protector materials, suggest that touchscreen devices may provide a potential source of transmission, and should regularly be disinfected especially in multi-user environments,” states the report....

The new 37-page court filing came from Apple recently, as an answer to Epic’s request to reinstate Fortnite on the App Store. Following the ban of Fortnite from Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store, Epic has asked the court for permission to bring back the game on the platforms as the majority of its players are being affected by it. Apple, however, is sticking to its primary point that Epic was the one that violated the App Store policies....

“Facebook’s actions to entrench and maintain its monopoly deny consumers the benefits of competition. Our aim is to roll back Facebook’s anticompetitive conduct and restore competition so that innovation and free competition can thrive,” said Ian Conner, Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Competition. The FTC is seeking a permanent injunction that may require Facebook to sell its subsidiaries including Instagram and WhatsApp. It also wants the court to prohibit Facebook from imposing anticompetitive conditions on software developers....

Firstly, there is now support for subtitles when a user opens a supported video in picture-in-picture (PiP) mode. If it detects that you are in a dimly lit environment or there is a bright light in the background, Google Meet will automatically adjust the brightness of your video for improved visibility to other participants. The feature is currently exclusive to desktop and iOS devices. Google is following a gradual rollout schedule, which means the feature will be available to all eligible devices in the next couple of weeks....

According to a recent report from 9to5Google, the company has started a gradual rollout of the update for select Android users. A Twitter user named Jvolkman shared a few screenshots with the publication to showcase the new feature in the Messages app. You can check them out right here. As per the screenshots, the Messages app has started showing message reactions from iMessage users as relevant emojis. Moreover, tapping the emoji reactions shows a message with the phrase “Translated from iPhone“....
